Château Le Cagnard, Haut-de-Cagnes (Cagnes-sur-Mer), French Riviera
A unique and exclusive hotel in the heart of the village of Haut-de-Cagnes
Haut-de-Cagnes is a medieval semi-pedestrian village located in the heart of the French Riviera, 20 minutes from Nice airport, 20 km from Cannes, 35 km from Monaco, and just 5 km from St-Paul-de-Vence. Boasting ancient ramparts with winding alleys and shaded courtyards, it provides for the ultimate in Provençal charm.
Overlooking the town of Cagnes-sur-Mer, the 4-star Hotel Château le Cagnard offers stunning views of the Mediterranean and the hills of the hinterland. Located in the heart of the village, this exquisite hotel is a magnificent 13th century structure perched above the ramparts of the medieval town of Haut-de-Cagnes.
Its name, « Le Cagnard, » means « sun » in Provençal and its history is closely linked to that of Château Grimaldi, which sits on the square of the ancient village and dates back to the 14th century.
History is felt everywhere in this beautiful residence: the arched « Salle des Gardes » retains the medieval heritage of this building, when knights protected the village and its castle.
Frescoes from the 1930s on the ceiling of the Salle des Gardes – painted by the artist Emile Wéry – remind us of the exoticism and history of contemporary painting.
Château le Cagnard has been a member of the International Small Luxury Hotels of the World Group since the summer of 2015.
